Unearthly larimar - also known as "Dolphin's Stone" or "Atlantis's Stone"
is one of the most precious gemstones in the world. This fact is due to the fact that there is the only locality of this unique blue pectolite variety, which is larimar in the world. Larimar is mined only in the Dominican Republic, in a very small mountainous area, the province of Barahona. This is one of the reasons why the price for the highest quality larimar stones is very high;
In Larimar, a pattern of crystalline needles is often observed. Blue color can vary in intensity from very light to green-blue to dark blue. The most desirable color, however, is sky blue.
As far as mining of Larimar is concerned, it is extremely problematic, not only that the deposit is unpleasantly difficult to access, but also lies in the area of frequent hurricanes, and so it is no exception that mining costs 5 months a year. It is mined only by hand, hand tools, when miners watch a small vein and cut its pieces. (nice as in the Middle Ages) no use of explosives is possible. This makes mining expensive and production is not too big.
